‘Imiloa After Dark: The Eastside Jazz Collective with special guest Keahi Conjugacion

‘Imiloa After Dark will be the hot spot for jazz under the stars, as the Eastside Jazz Collective with special guest Keahi Conjugacion brings their brand of jazz to the ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center’s Planetarium, Friday January 24, 2014, at 7:00 p.m.
The Eastside Jazz Collective (EJC) trio is composed of Jr. Volcano Choy on piano and trumpet, Adam Kay on bass, and Steve Bader on drums. EJC will perform a variety of jazz standards, contemporary, Latin, blues, and swing. Accomplished musicians in their own right, this trio brings their collective experience together for a memorable performance.
Performing with the trio this night will be special guest vocalist Keahi Conjugacion.

Jr. Volcano Choy (Piano/Trumpet)
With a distinguished career that spans more than 30 years in Hawaii and the mainland, Volcano Choy has worked with local jazz legends Jimmy Borges, Betty Lou Taylor and Gabe Baltazar and international recording artists Bobby Hutcherson, Joe Sample, George Benson and Horace Silver. He was a long time member of Rodger Humphries legendary jazz ensemble in Pittsburg and recently performed at the Big Island Jazz Festival and the East Hawaii Jazz & Blues Festival.
Adam Kay (Bass)
Adam is a veteran Big Island musician adept at many genres of music. A former student of Gary Washburn’s Honokaa High School Jazz Band, he has performed with Rupert Tripp Jr., Kivin Kalauli, Kau, Harold Kama Jr., Bruddah Waltah and Johnny Shot amongst others. His Jazz credits include work with Keahi Conjugacion, Mark Mallory, Elena Welch, and the Jazz Brothers.
Steve Bader (Drums)
With performing and recording credits throughout Hawaii and the Northwest, Steve has worked with Seattle Funk & Fusion band Common Cause, Deems Tsutakawa and Keahi Conjugacion. He plays with a host of Big Island artists including Mark Mallory, Elena Welch, Jeff Gaeth, Lou Anne Gurney & Jazz Mele. Steve continues to record and tour with Brother Noland, a musical relationship that spans more than 20 years.
Keahi Conjugacion (Vocals)
Keahi is a Hoku and Grammy nominated vocalist that has performed throughout the mainland, Asia and Europe. Considered one of Hawaii’s finest jazz & blues singer Keahi is the eldest sister of the famous Conjugacion musical family (Brother Noland & Tony C). She has played Carnegie Hall in New York, Jazz Alley in Seattle and Jazz Festivals in Sicily. She works regularly with the Honolulu Jazz Quartet and performs with the “A List” of Hawaii’s jazz musicians.
